Destination Wedding in Cabo How-to Guide: Transporting Your Dress
As destination weddings in Cabo, Puerta Vallarta and Mazatlan are becoming more popular, many brides are asking, how do I get this dress over international borders... with out a major disaster? It's hard enough transporting your dress from the shop to your home, so what happens when you have to schlep halfway around the world? Here are some options:
- Mail it over. Yes, it may seem more convenient than carrying a huge garment bag around the airport, and trough security -but there's always the risk of it getting lost en route. Have no fear, UPS will pack it in their own materials and if you use the priority 2-3 day shipping it can be relatively inexpensive.
- Check it in. This is the most conventional of all the choices. You can carefully pack your dress and check it in with your other luggage. Again, there is a risk of it getting lost, crushed or mishandled.
- Buy an extra seat. If your dress is very expensive, heavy or bulky, consider buying an extra seat on the plane so you can keep an eye on it at all times. It may look silly, and it certainly has a large price tag, but if you paid thousands of dollars for your designer gown, it may be worth it.
- Hang it up. This just might be the best and simplest solution. Ask your airline if there's a coat closet that's big enough to accommodate your dress (maybe pack a bulk slip in a suitcase). If you choose this method, you should buy a fairly lightweight dress that can fit in the plane's closet. If it's wrinkled when you get to your destination, look for a place that can steam it for you as soon as you get there.
One thing that is important for planning a destination wedding in Cabo is to keep portability in mind when choosing your gown. That way you don't get an enormous gown that will be ruined or destroyed by moving or folding the fabric. Planning a destination wedding in Cabo? Learn mroe about our luxury Cabo hotels.
