Hurricane Update: Rick Downgraded to Lowest Category
Hurricane Update: (According to Weather.com -- 11:10 a.m.) Hurricane Rick has weakened since Sunday morning. Further weakening is expected today. Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach is the area's certified hurricane shelter and is well prepared for any severe weather. All of our Mazatlan and Cabo resorts are certified hurricane proof and have made preparations for Hurricane Rick. Right now, the weather in Cabo San Lucas is overcast but no rain or heavy winds.
This hurricane is a category 1, the lowest category, and considered "minimal" with low winds, low surge and minimum central pressure. Rick's top winds will only reach 60-80 mph as it nears Baja California Wednesday morning. No evacuations have taken place. Currently, the airport is still open and airlines are still scheduled to fly in and fly out. However, the marina is closed.
As of 8:00 am today, the hurricane was located about 370 miles south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas with top winds of 115 mph. Hurricane Rick should continue to weaken as it moves toward southern Baja California and the mainland north of Mazatlan.
