Los Cabos Welcomes Back Visitors in Style

Destination's Hotels, Restaurants, Tour Operators, Golf Courses & More Open Doors as First International Flights Arrive in Los Cabos

On October 8, 2014, the Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) officially welcomed its first commercial, international flights from the United States and Canada following Hurricane Odile. The destination has been welcoming domestic flights - from Mexico City, Tijuana and Guadalajara - since October 3. Tourism officials, airport employees, tour operators, local performers and mariachis enthusiastically greeted passengers as they deplaned.

Since Hurricane Odile hit the destination on September 14, the federal government has made the recovery of Los Cabos, Mexico's third most popular tourism destination, a top priority. Los Cabos, which includes Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo and the 20-mile 'Corridor' between them, attracts about 2 million visitors per year.

Full flights from Los Angeles (via Alaska Airlines) and Houston (via United Airlines) arrived on Wednesday, October 8 with a total of 300 passengers. Since then, more than 3,000 international passengers have arrived in Los Cabos and the numbers continue to grow daily.

The official airport authority, El Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), states that as for today, there will be approximately 30 flights in operation (both domestic and international) with the number of daily flights expected to increase based on consumer demand. The Los Cabos International Airport is expected to return to normal operation in early December, just in time for the winter travel season. Airlines are operating with the disclaimer that itineraries are subject to change during this time:
