A few days ago Quivira / Pueblo Bonito struck a deal for the construction of Quivira's first 18-hole championship golf course with Jack Nicklaus, the legendary player and golf designer who really needs no introduction, and two remarkable individuals: Eduardo Graniello, the owner of Intellego, Mexico's leader in Information Technology (www.intellego.com), and Salvador "Sal" Rodriguez, the owner of Diamond Golf (www.diamondgolf.com), one of the world's premier golf course construction companies. So it gives me a great deal of satisfaction to share with you that we have finally begun construction of the first Quivira Golf Course! The official start date was February 20th, 2012. We are very happy for all the Pueblo Bonito family, since this marks an important milestone in our company history.
The road to get here was not easy but we never relented in our efforts. Amongst the challenges, we overcame a complex and longer than anticipated environmental approval process and, of course, modern history's great recession. But fortunately we can now see the payoff of our efforts in the construction work being executed as we speak.
So what can we expect now regarding the golf course? The first step in the construction process is to build the water infrastructure to be able to shape the golf course, which will take about a month. Once that is done, construction will begin on two ocean-front golf holes and the temporary practice facility, which will be located right on the beach. Simultaneously we will build the golf holes that wrap around the Quivira Mountain Reserve and extend onto the spectacular sand dunes on the other side of the lighthouse. We should have nine holes grassed by the end of this year, the complete golf course by April of 2013, and we expect play to begin around July of 2013!
Long term, the plan is to have two golf courses within Quivira. Once we build the second golf course, which is still several years away, we will build the practice facilities where they are designed to go, and we will re-route the golf courses to reflect Jack's true intentions. Both courses will be spectacular, and both will be ocean courses, but each with its own personality to deliver a different, yet complimentary, golfing experience.
We expect a lot from this golf course and truly believe that it will be one of the premier golf courses in Los Cabos and North America. We have devoted spectacular and very valuable land for its construction and Jack is very excited to build this golf course, as he believes that it can be a true masterpiece. That gives me the confidence that the resulting golf course should be nothing short of unique.
Starting in April, we will be posting periodic updates on the progress of the construction of the golf course on the Pueblo Bonito (www.pueblobonito.com) and Quivira (www.quiviraloscabos.com) websites, if you'd like to check them out. Also, let me mention that now that we have begun construction in Cabo, our attention will divert to Mazatlan, where we have already secured our environmental permitting. We continue to work there and we look forward to having another spectacular championship course at our beautiful resort, Emerald Bay.
So thank you again and I am looking forward to getting out there to enjoy a very special round of golf right on the true Land's End of the Baja peninsula. FORE!!
