Celebrate World Beach Day in Mexico
Every year on September 1, World Beach Day invites us to pause and appreciate the remarkable beauty and importance of our oceans and coastlines. They are more than stunning backdrops for our vacations—they are vital ecosystems, home to an extraordinary array of marine life and natural resources that sustain life on our planet. From regulating global climate to producing more than half the oxygen we breathe, healthy oceans are essential to our well-being.
Our beaches, meanwhile, serve as delicate buffers between land and sea, protecting inland areas from erosion and extreme weather while supporting the local communities. Yet, these natural treasures face unprecedented challenges, from pollution and overfishing to habitat loss and climate change.
At Pueblo Bonito, the health of our beaches and oceans resonates deeply. Our resorts in Los Cabos and Mazatlán are surrounded by spectacular stretches of coastline, part of marine ecosystems of global significance. Our unique environments are the main draw that beckons our guests to visit and the places we call home. Sustainability has been at the core of what we do for decades, and our commitment touches every part of the guest experience.
One of the most beloved programs at our resorts is our successful sea turtle conservation initiative. Every summer and early fall, endangered sea turtles return to their traditional nesting locations, some of which happen to be right in front of our resorts. Our trained team carefully relocates the nests to protected areas, safeguarding them from natural predators and human activity. When the hatchlings emerge weeks later, our guests are invited to join in the moving experience of a sea turtle release. It’s a moment that underscores the fragile connection between humans and wildlife, a magical experience that touches and delights people of all ages.
Beyond our wildlife conservation efforts, our care for the coast extends to how we manage our resources. Pueblo Bonito operates its own water recycling plant, ensuring that our lush gardens and landscaped grounds are irrigated using reclaimed water instead of drawing it from vital freshwater sources. By doing so, we protect local aquifers and reduce the strain on the surrounding environment.
In addition, we take a hands-on approach to keeping our beaches pristine. We schedule regular beach day cleanups, often engaging guests and team members in a shared mission to remove debris to keep our coastline beautiful and protect marine life. These community-minded efforts make an immediate impact and also inspire a sense of stewardship and camaraderie in all those who participate.
Our sustainability story is also told in smaller but equally meaningful ways. Guests at our resorts can find handcrafted glass hearts decorating the grounds at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort and the Quivira Clubhouse, each one a unique work of art made by recycling glass from our restaurants’ empty bottles. Purchasing one of these hearts from the boutiques in our hotels supports the local artisans who make them and helps reduce waste, proving that environmental responsibility can be economically useful.
Beyond our properties, we actively seek partnerships with like-minded organizations, suppliers, and community groups that can help us amplify the impact of our efforts. Whether it’s sourcing sustainably caught seafood, reducing or eliminating single-use plastics, or expanding our selection of eco-friendly amenities, our teams are always exploring new ways to improve our contributions.
Celebrating World Beach Day in Mexico gives us a clear opportunity to show our love of the oceans and the shorelines they touch. But it’s also a reminder that the good times come with immense responsibility. Every choice we make, as travelers and as hosts, leaves an imprint on the natural world around us. By choosing to support properties that prioritize environmental care, you become part of a global community that’s committed to protecting the planet’s most treasured destinations.
If you’ll be visiting us on September 1st, we invite you to enjoy our beautiful beaches and commit to their preservation. Join a sea turtle release, participate in a beach cleanup, donate to a beach-supporting organization, or simply take a moment to share what you’ve learned with someone else.
We also invite you to participate in conservation efforts any day of the year. When we care for the ocean, we care for ourselves, our communities, and our shared future.
