Mornings at Casa 46: A New Chapter in Mazatlán's Most Beloved Historic Setting
In the heart of Mazatlán's Centro Histórico, where cobblestone streets lead to one of Mexico's most enchanting plazas, Casa 46 has long been regarded as the city's culinary jewel. Set within the lovingly restored Casa Machado — a 19th-century home turned museum-quality dining destination — the restaurant has earned its reputation through years of exceptional artisanal cuisine, curated artistry, and a sense of place that feels entirely its own. Now, there's a new reason to return: Casa 46 is officially open for breakfast, Wednesday through Sunday, from 8am to 1pm.
Described by Casa 46 as a "restaurant-museum," the concept is a reinterpretation of regional Mexican and Mazatlecan cuisine, shaped by the five foreign cultures — French, Spanish, German, Asian, and American — that settled in the port and forged its distinct personality. Under the direction of Chef Carlos Contreras, the cuisine captures the soul of Mexican flavors in every dish, inspired by his Oaxacan roots and elevated with modern technique. The restaurant's wine cellar holds more than 140 labels, and the service is as personalized as the setting is singular.
The new breakfast menu is a love letter to Mexico's morning traditions, reimagined through Casa 46's signature lens. Standouts include the Black Mole Tamal with Organic Chicken, Uchepos — two sweet corn tamales topped with green and red sauces, cream, and ranch cheese — and the playful Pizzaquiles, a chilaquiles pizza layered with birria, roasted green salsa, ranch cream, and Manchego. For something more decadent, the Huevos Rotos arrive over crispy potatoes with Serrano ham and Grana Padano, while the French Toast, made from house-baked brioche soaked in coffee cream with vanilla crème anglaise, fresh mango, caramelized walnuts, and toasted coconut, is pure indulgence. Regional touches shine through in the El Mazatleco, featuring local tuna sausage and hot cakes, and the Trio of Huaraches with chilorio, regional chorizo, and ranch-style pork cracklings.
Breakfast at Casa 46 invites guests to experience the restaurant in an entirely different light — literally. Morning sun filters through the windows of the historic home, and La Terraza, the upstairs dining area, offers a spectacular panoramic view of Plaza Machado as the square comes to life with the rhythm of a Mazatlán morning.
Beyond the plate, the restaurant itself is worth exploring. Guests are welcome to wander the museum-quality exhibits before or after their meal, from the entrance gallery of figures who shaped Sinaloa's economic development to the carnival hall, maritime hall, and The Library — a bar inspired by its namesake. Every corner tells a story.
Casa 46 is accessible to guests of all three Pueblo Bonito properties in Mazatlán, including the boutique Pueblo Bonito Vantage Centro Histórico, just a short walk away. Outside diners are warmly welcomed as well.
Casa 46 is now open for breakfast Wednesday through Sunday, from 8 am to 1 pm, and continues to welcome guests for dinner Tuesday through Sunday, from 6 pm to 11 pm. Reservations are required for both breakfast and dinner, and an elegant resort wear/business casual dress code applies, with dress sandals permitted for women.
Book your next Mazatlan vacation today and make sure to include the acclaimed Casa 46 in your itinerary.
