Can’t Miss Summer Activities in Cabo

Aug 19, 2022

It’s summer in Cabo and that means you’ve no time to waste to get outside and explore! No matter which Pueblo Bonito Resort you choose to call your home away from home while you’re here, you’ll have a great base from which to leap–whether into water, onto a boat, or zip-lining across the treetops. This month we’ve detailed our favorite, most fabulous adventures you simply can’t afford to miss. Not enough time, you say? Come back again next year!

Ride a Camel- You probably don’t picture camels when someone mentions Mexico. But considering Cabo San Lucas is part beach and part desert, it makes for the perfect camel habitat. Dromedaries are found on eco farms throughout the area and carry visitors on one of the most unique experiences in Cabo. Horseback rides through the Pacific Coast are also popular, and many tour groups will saddle up their trusty mares for you, too. But Cabo camel rides have stolen the show of late for visitors of all ages, so book early, as tours tend to sell out! Try booking a ride with Camel Outback Adventure and Eco Farm or Wild Canyon Adventures among others.

Go Off-Road- Trade in four legs for a set of wheels when you book an ATV excursion through scenic mountain trails in the Baja desert. Riding ATVs in Cabo is among the top attractions for many visitors–all while maintaining the utmost safety with outfits like Cabo Adventure proving full protective gear and comprehensive safety instructions. It is the easiest way to see both the sand dunes and the best Cabo beaches in a single outing. For a great deal, consider booking a day at Los Cabos Adventure Park where you’re able to pick and choose from many of the activities on our list — like ATV rides, camel rides, zip-line adventures, horseback riding and more–all for one price.

Zip-line Through the Trees - In the mood for a high-flying adventure? Experience the vast beauty of Cabo and the awe-inspiring scenery of a UNESCO protected biosphere reserve from hundreds of feet above ground on a Zipline tour. There are several Cabo zip-line tour options to match the experience you want, from a leisurely beginner's ride to more extreme high-speed, high-altitude thrills. Rappel from sheer rock walls, brave the commando bridge, zip through gorgeous canopies tandem style and upside down before swinging high over the canyon on Cabo Adventure’s signature “Pendulum” tour. Whatever your zest for adventure, Pueblo Bonito’s resort desk will be happy to recommend the perfect zipline tour for you and yours. Kids courses are available, too.

Try Deep Sea Fishing - Bait your hook for a morning of deep-sea fishing. Our coastline has long drawn experienced and leisure fishermen alike, with plentiful waters that promise catches you’ll reminisce about for years. Cabo San Lucas is internationally recognized for its offshore sportfishing with sizable marlin, though autumn tends to lure top results. Throughout the year, and in June, you can count on bites from other massive billfish, like swordfish and sailfish. You’ll also come across mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, and shark. Should you decide to venture into the world of mangrove fishing expect bites from snook, red snapper, grouper, and triggerfish.

Play Golf at Quivira - If fishing isn’t your thing, book yourself a tee time at Quivira Golf Club. For the seventh consecutive year, the world-famous course has received The Editors' Choice: Best Golf Resorts in Mexico And Central America award by Golf Digest. It’s the newest of more than a dozen Jack Nicklaus layouts in Mexico, and perhaps, we think, his most challenging, with holes along and atop granite cliffs and sand dunes overlooking the Pacific. Indeed, the diversity of the holes, from cacti and arroyos in rolling desert foothills to windswept dunes and cliffs, is supreme and unparalleled amongst other courses in the region. Owners and guests of Quivira Los Cabos and Pueblo Bonito Golf & Spa Resorts have exclusive access to the course, but you don’t have to be the best in order to play; situated beside the clubhouse is a spacious, double-ended practice facility right alongside the beach. Groundbreaking for Quivira Club’s second Jack Nicklaus Signature Course is expected to take place this fall.

Set Sail - Organized tours can be one of the best ways to conquer your to-do list without spending time researching and planning. In Cabo, we’ve got more companies than you’ll have time to try. But one activity you must experience, is sailing. Relax aboard luxury French-made sailing yachts as you skate across the sparkling sea surrounding Los Cabos. On Cabo Adventures’ Luxury Day Sailing Los Cabos tours, expert tour guides will take you up close to all of the scenic hotspots in Cabo San Lucas. You’ll cruise past the famous Arch, Lover's Beach, Medano Beach, Pelican Rock, and the always-bustling sea lion colony. Keep watch along the way for incredible marine life like dolphins and rays. But sightseeing wouldn’t be the only thing you’d get to do while onboard. Midway through the tour, your crew will drop anchor in a protected cove to give you the chance to soak up the sun, snorkel, and paddle board before savoring a gourmet lunch on deck. Snap some photos or simply unwind at this picturesque pitstop. You’ll be amazed at the pure natural beauty of the hidden cove.

Experience Snorkeling - Perhaps you’ve visited Lover’s Beach and captured memories in photographs by Land’s End Arch. But have you snorkeled alongside the inspiring rock formations? Well, now’s your chance! Sunny, tropical, and virtually bursting with wildlife, Cabo San Lucas is home to an incredible array of marine life and stunning underwater landscapes. Using some of the finest snorkeling equipment in the industry, you’ll be able to slip on a mask and swim around in it with Cabo Adventure’s snorkeling tours. One of the tour’s top destinations is Pelican Rock where you’re likely to see sea turtles, surgeon fish, parrotfish, angelfish, morrish idols, rays, and more. If you prefer paddling of a different variety, hop onto an awesome paddle board to see what all the buzz is about! Never tried it? An expert guide will teach you. There are countless ways to explore the Cabo Corridor
including Santa Maria and Chileno bays which are just a short trip from your home away from home at Pueblo Bonito.

Swim with the Dolphins - Whether you book a ‘Swim with Dolphins’ experience, Dolphin Encounter, or Trainer for a Day package, nothing beats the thrill of swimming with dolphins in Cabo San Lucas. The Cabo Dolphins Swim with Dolphins program, featuring a docile team of Pacific Bottlenose dolphins, is among the most popular attractions in Cabo San Lucas. The Dolphin Encounter programs is a fun introduction to dolphins for people of all swim abilities. For the ultimate experience, book a Dolphin Trainer for a Day program, for a behind-the scenes look at dolphin care and training. All of these once-in-a-lifetime programs are available at Dolphin Discovery centers all over Mexico, including right in the San Lucas Marina.

See the Sights - El Arco, or “The Arch,” is a wildly popular and well photographed stone structure that’s sure to impress. Known far and wide, the naturally formed limestone arch is nature’s way of marking the “Land’s End” at the tip of the Baja Peninsula. You can see it from a number of perspectives but perhaps best of all from the golden sands of Lover’s Beach. Right next to El Arco, the beach is accessible by boat and borders both the Pacific and bay sides of the peninsula. Only the bay side is safe for a swim, however, earning the other (Pacific) side the nickname, “Divorce Beach.” Plan your excursion to “Land’s End” with our concierge. Besides the beaches and the Arch, there are plenty of other pretty spots around the peninsula, like Scooby Doo Rock and Horse Head Rock to check out, too. Most boat tour guides will point out everything there is to see.

Visit the Beach - Speaking of the beach, we’ve got a lot of them, and they’re all worth visiting. We’ve already mentioned a couple of visitors’ favorites–Lover’s Beach and Playa del Divorcio– but the main beach in Cabo San Lucas is Playa Médano, where our Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos and Pueblo Bonito Rosé resorts are located. Right in downtown Cabo, Playa Médano is famous for its soft white sands and warm, calm waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. It starts at the east side of the harbor and extends several miles along Cabo San Lucas Bay. Given its convenient location, it’s also prime territory for vendors selling sombreros, jewelry, and the like, so if you’re in search of something a bit less lively, try Playa Santa Maria or Playa Chileno. Both are swimmers’ paradise and lend a certain tranquility that you may not find elsewhere. Build a sandcastle, read a book, and enjoy the dazzling sunshine.

Take a Hike! - When you’re feeling more adventurous, lace up your walking shoes to step into one of the favorite landlubber pastimes. Countless coastal and inland hiking trails carve through the region’s rich and varied flora and fauna, from Rancho Cacachilas to Estero San José del Cabo. For a great cardio workout and fabulous views, choose from guided hikes such as those offered within the Quivira Los Cabos development or on Mt. Solmar, or enjoy hiking on your own on trails throughout the destination.

Shop at the Marina - For those craving retail therapy, head to the Cabo San Lucas Marina, an incredibly popular tourist area, with tons of restaurants, bars, and shops along the water. Grab a drink and listen to live music at one of the Cabo restaurants near the water, as you watch the boats roll in and see the sea lions compete for fish. There’s plenty of high-end, designer shopping around the main square and street vendors selling Mexico souvenirs long the boardwalk. A walk around the Marina can make for a fun and relaxing activity early during your stay in Cabo to help you get a sense of the lay of the land.

Relax and Unwind - Finally, after any (or all) of your activities, treat yourself to an afternoon at Armonia Spa. From deep tissue massages and soothing body scrubs to luxury organic facials and healing body wraps, our premier spa experience exceeds every expectation. True to its name, Armonia strives to deliver a sense of "harmony" to guests’ bodies, minds, and spirits through an eclectic, yet trusted menu of spa services constantly updated to meet industry trends.
