Letty Coppel Foundation: Decades of Philanthropy

While Pueblo Bonito Resorts is acclaimed for its outstanding collection of hotels stretched along some of Mexico’s most stunning coastlines, it’s the work beyond the golden sands and the blue Pacific that has made a difference in people’s lives.

In the spirit of Women’s Month—a time to honor the achievements, leadership, and lasting impact of women around the world—it is especially meaningful to recognize the vision and compassion of Letty Coppel, whose philanthropic legacy continues to uplift communities across Los Cabos and Mazatlán.

For more than 20 years, the Letty Coppel Foundation has committed itself to supporting the most vulnerable communities in and around these destinations, recognizing their critical need for assistance.

“Our core mission is to provide generous support to those who need it most, always ensuring that our actions are grounded in dignity and respect for every individual,” said Ms. Coppel.

Founded in 2004 to humanize the quality of life in the communities in and around Los Cabos and Mazatlán, the Foundation has significantly expanded its mission over the years. At the forefront of this charitable outreach are families, specifically the living conditions within their communities.

“What happens to them and their development is what concerns us,” Ms. Coppel explained, adding that promoting sustainable community development as well as nurturing culture and education are the pathways to a better society.

Ms. Coppel created Fundación Letty Coppel based on the philosophy of Monterrey philanthropist Adolfo Prieto, who said, “All the gold in the world means nothing. What endures are the good deeds we do for our fellow neighbor.” Her goal from the beginning was clear: help those who need it the most by formalizing and institutionalizing the philanthropic work to which she has always dedicated a great deal of her time.

Offering year-round health services and educational programs through its medical centers, the Letty Coppel Foundation continues to support initiatives for an array of issues affecting local communities.

Eight years ago, the Foundation acquired a mobile medical unit to serve the Los Cabos region—the first of its kind in Baja California Sur. To this day, the unit’s medical aid assistance benefits over 600 people per month. Services provided include general medicine, dentistry, mammography, gynecology, bone densitometry, and many more. Health programs are carried out in Cabo’s neediest, most populous neighborhoods, with medical personnel supplied by the local government.

When a much-needed second mobile medical unit—a hospital on wheels—was acquired two years ago, the medical component of the Foundation’s Community Development pillar doubled its ability to address health issues in underprivileged communities.

The mobile medical units buttress the Letty Coppel Assistance Center, which opened in 2021. Created to lend a helping hand to those in need, the Center is proof that while Los Cabos is a world-class destination catering to upscale travelers, Pueblo Bonito Resorts and Quivira Los Cabos remain deeply committed to meaningful, life-changing charitable outreach.

In addition to these efforts, the Foundation continues to expand its impact, raising funds for a new medical center in partnership with Kind Traveler. A series of events throughout the year—including Corazones Unidos in February, Bajo un Mar de Estrellas in May, and the Black and White Gala in November—help sustain these vital initiatives and have become fixtures on the Cabo social calendar.

Through Kind Traveler’s “Every Stay Gives Back” program, Pueblo Bonito Resorts proudly supports the Letty Coppel Foundation. With $1 USD donated per guest night, 100% of the funds go directly toward the Foundation’s efforts, creating a meaningful way for travelers to contribute to the well-being of local communities.

“There is nothing like giving back and having a positive influence on other people,” Ms. Coppel said. “Having an opportunity to improve people’s lives is not only a wonderful opportunity, but also a responsibility that we all have. I am blessed to be able to do this.”
