The Great Mexican Eclipse in Mazatlan

As real estate agents are fond of saying, it’s all about “location, location, location.”

On April 8, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the U.S. and Canada. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk.

Mazatlán, which sits squarely on the path of totality, will be the single best place in the world to glimpse the full glory of the sun’s outer atmosphere, or corona, visible only when the sun’s disc is completely covered by the moon. The Great Mexican Eclipse will reach its zenith in Mazatlán, where the eclipse will last longer than any other location on earth.

To celebrate this extraordinary celestial event, Pueblo Bonito Resorts’ ARMONÍA Wellness Collection has created a special ‘Solar Rebirth: Eclipse and Well-Being in Mazatlán’ program from April 6 – 8. Experiences are designed to maximize this unique alignment of cosmic energies and connect with spirituality and nature in the beautiful surroundings of both Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay Resort & Spa and Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan Beach Resort.

NOTE: Guests must wear specialized protective glasses when viewing the eclipse.

The schedule of events at Emerald Bay starts on April 6 when the staff will educate and awaken the curiosity of guests through a workshop on the astrological meaning of the eclipse, followed by a yoga and meditation session. A themed dinner under the stars will feature stories and legends told around a campfire.

The second day (April 7) starts with a morning stretching session in the pool, followed by a solar and lunar cycle workshop, an eclipse visualization workshop, and an afternoon aqua yoga session. A themed buffet dinner and White Party is slated for that evening with guided meditation and internal preparation for the eclipse at 8:30 p.m.

Day 3 (April 8) will begin with a morning meeting, meditation and yoga in final preparation for the eclipse. At 10:16 a.m., the moment of the solar eclipse, guests can fully experience the celestial phenomenon. After a closing ceremony and group reflection, a celebration brunch will be held where guests can share experiences.

With a few variations, a similar schedule of events will take place at Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan.

Pre- and post-eclipse renewal rituals also are available.

For example, on the eve of the eclipse, ARMONÍA Wellness Collection invites guests to prepare themselves with a purification ritual in the privacy of their room. The 90-minute "Mayan Eclipse" Renewal Ritual, inspired by the Mayan worldview, was created as a spiritual and physical journey. Through the healing hands of a masseuse, guests will connect with the energies of the eclipse and experience a deep renewal.

Each step of this treatment was designed to align body and mind with the celestial event and leave a lasting imprint on personal well-being. The ritual features a quartz exfoliation, a nourishing volcanic mud wrap, and a relaxing and energetic harmonization massage.

At the conclusion of this ritual, guests receive a special gift: a beautiful Japa Mala of quartz beads, carefully selected to commemorate the event. The Japa Mala is a meditation tool that helps maintain peace and spiritual connection. The quartz stone in the Mala will remind guests of the clarity and renewal experienced during the Great Mexican Eclipse in Mazatlan.

Most of the events are free of charge to resort guests. A few are available at an additional cost.
